The Mainframe Programmer/Developer will provide essential operational support for daily, monthly, and year-end job schedules, mainframe software and hardware infrastructure upgrades, and disaster recovery processes for the Personal Property Registration System (PPSR). This role is crucial for maintaining, supporting, and delivering applications that meet business requirements and deliverable specifications. This resource is required to have knowledge of IMS DB/DC, COBOL, Clist, JCL, REXX, CA7 scheduler and other mainframe tools to support ongoing production change requests and business production data requests.

Responsibilities
- Provide operational support for daily, monthly, and year-end job schedules.
- Assist with mainframe software and hardware upgrades.
- Participate in disaster recovery process services.
- Support the branch in maintaining and delivering applications aligned with business requirements.
- Handle ongoing production change requests and business production data requests.
- Coordinate and assist with testing after mainframe software/hardware infrastructure upgrades and disaster recovery processes for PPSR.
- Provide ad hoc query requests to the PPSR business area and/or auditors.
- Create operational support documentation and train others.
- Conduct analysis leading to detailed information regarding the current system's logical and physical design and code structures during the concept phase of the project.
- Analyze technical database requirements leading to the definition of changes required to support the new system, and implement these changes.
- Create technical specifications in accordance with OPS standards.
- Identify problems/issues and develop mitigation strategies.
- Prepare regular status reports on progress made.
- Ensure effective knowledge transfer to I&IT cluster staff at all stages of the assignment.
- Report status to and follow overall direction from the Project Manager and/or Lead Technical Coordinator.
- Conduct logical and physical design sessions, including JAD sessions/walkthroughs to vet the design and obtain sign-off on the technical specifications.
- Develop new code and modify existing code (online, batch, and workstation) to implement the design as approved in the technical specifications.
- Interface with mid-tier developers.
- Ensure that appropriate QA technical standards are incorporated into all artifacts and system code.
- Prepare test data and conduct code unit testing.
- Participate in integration testing, including input to the integration test plan, setup of the test environment, creation of test data, execution of integration tests with Business Analysts and developers, and recording of test results and defect repairs.
- Plan and participate in code retrofitting with other developers modifying the same code in other projects.
- Analyze reported defects and implement corrections required to eliminate the defects.
- Use Ministry-mandated management tools for code libraries.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in designing and development Mainframe applications in large integrated IMS DB/DC Full Function and FASTPATH environments
- 10+ years of experience with hierarchical database technologies such as: IMS DB and VSAM, to perform IMS Database Re-organization, Unload/Reload, and Recovery Control
- 10+ years experience in using COBOL, JCL, Assembly, TSO/ISPF, BTS, Clist, REXX within the last 5 years
- 10+ years experience in programming and analysis at the specified experience level
- 10+ years experience in structured methodologies for the development, design, implementation, and maintenance of applications
- 10+ years experience in design, code, test, debug, and documentation of applications
- Proven experience with CA Scheduling, MVS File-Aid and MVS Abend-Aid tools
- Proven Experience in the use of third generation language development tool CA Telon, and IBM ACB, BDB and PSB Generation
- Proven Experience in the use of information retrieval packages using CA Easytrieve, CA SAR
- Proven experience with IBM 3270SNA, NDM communications and others
- Proven experience with all stages of automated system implementation in large complex high volume online and batch Mainframe transactions environments
