Responsibilities
The duties of the Senior Tax Manager in Vancouver would include the following:
Tax Advisory and Planning
-Assist with complex tax advisory and planning engagements.
-Draft written memorandums, instruction letters, and other client deliverables.
-Identify opportunities for innovative tax planning and special services.
-Research technical tax issues and provide clear, actionable guidance to clients.
-Stay current with changes in tax legislation, regulations, and case law to ensure compliance and leverage opportunities.
Client Service and Relationship Management
-Prioritize and adapt to address client service needs promptly and efficiently.
-Deliver high-quality tax advice and solutions tailored to client goals.
-Build strong client relationships through consistent and effective communication.
Technical Expertise and Compliance
-Oversee tax compliance processes, including reviewing tax returns and addressing cross-border reporting (e.g., T106, T1134, T1135).
-Demonstrate a general understanding of the Canada-US Tax Treaty (preferred but not required).
-Address inbound and outbound cross-border tax issues, including foreign accrual property income and surplus pools (nice to have).
Leadership and Mentorship
-Provide mentoring and technical guidance to junior team members.
-Foster a collaborative and growth-oriented work environment.
-Share knowledge effectively with colleagues and clients, regardless of their technical expertise.
Qualifications
To be a strong applicant for this Senior Tax Manager, you would have:
-2+ years of relevant tax planning and compliance experience.
-Completion of the In-Depth Tax Program or equivalent certification.
-Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify, research, and solve complex tax issues.
-Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience drafting client-facing documents.
-Experience in cross-border tax compliance and knowledge of international tax concepts is an asset.
-General understanding of the Canada-US Tax Treaty is preferred.
