The Obsolescence Specialist is dedicated to providing Integrated Logistic Support (ILS) engineering and analysis with an emphasis on software application level obsolescence, including logistic support analysis, dependability, maintenance planning, technical documentation, publications and training for obsolescence concerns.
Advantages
Clearance: Trade, Controlled Goods, Secret clearance (ideal candidate will already possess Secret clearance). NATO clearance will eventually be required.
Work Arrangement: Hybrid position - 3 days in the office (Ottawa 1 Chrysalis). Open to candidates in Victoria or Halifax with remote possibility for exceptional candidates.
Schedule: 40 hours per week, flexible with core hours of 10am-3pm EST.
Environment: Office-based, with occasional domestic or international travel (including access to government facilities).
Permanent Potential: High chance of becoming a permanent position.
Responsibilities
You will be required to:
· Contribute to the Obsolescence Management Plan for software application level obsolescence concerns.
· Investigate, collaboratively define, and develop a centralized list of high level software dependencies for a prioritized list of Configuration Items (CIs) documented in the System Breakdown Structure (SBS). High level software dependencies may include, but not limited to versions of Java supported, version of Operating Software (OS) supported, compute resourcing required (RAM, CPU), special drivers required, hardware required (display size, GPU).
· Investigate, collaboratively define, and develop a centralized list of high level obsolescence information for a prioritized list of Configuration Items (CIs) documented in the System Breakdown Structure (SBS). Obsolescence Information may include, but not limited to the following, software application version up rev cycles, software application patching cycles, upcoming changes to licensing models, obsolescence waivers.
· Attend an engineering artefact (Obsolescence Working Group Support Artefact(s)) or series of engineering artefacts that allow for continuous tracking of high level software dependencies, and obsolescence information within a Collaborative Work Environment (CWE), in accordance with stakeholder formatting requirements.
· Attend Risk Review Meetings and speak to risk of completion and team interdependency of deliverables in that risk review forum.
· Implement approved changes to the Obsolescence Working Group Support Artefact(s).
· Track implementation and progress of artefact work or change resolution.
· Provide the updated documentation to client upon completion.
· Attend monthly Obsolescence Meetings.
· Use Integrated Logistic Support Analysis methods to develop strategies to identify and mitigate obsolescence
Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications
· Project Management.
· Previous experience working with a defense contract.
· Experience supporting an operational military asset.
· Experience working in or developing Jira Kanban boards desirable.
· Experience with MS Office especially MS Excel and SharePoint
· Experience with gathering data using Google and AI tools
· Great communications skills.
· Knowledge of SAFe principles, what happens during PI Planning, rhythm of Agile delivery, etc.
· Experience with Confluence, IBM Rational Team Concert (also referred as EWM and RTC)
·5+ years of experience in obsolescence management, ideally related to technology.
IT background, particularly in software and systems.
Team player, open to collaboration and assistance.
Summary
Hybrid position (Located in Victoria ) Hybrid, they will have to visit the ships alongside DND facilities occasionally and can work from home when physical presence is not required.
Schedule: Typical 8-4, Monday to Friday, but there is some flexibility.
Have the potential to convert into a permanent position (no guarantee).
