The Marine Engineer Contractor will work with internal teams to provide technical support to various Royal Canadian Navy’s Non-Combatant Platforms. This includes but not limited to planning, management and execution of various engineering tasks including development of technical work instructions for structural and machinery repairs, engineering change specifications, technical investigations, equipment/system design and ship stability support, and other Life Cycle Materiel Management services as required.
Responsibilities
The Marine Engineer Contractor will report to the Engineering Services Manager and provide technical support services as required, based on industry/RCN accepted practices and available technical documentation. This may include but not limited to:
● Prepare documented work scopes, suitable for the solicitation of quotations from external resources such as Original Equipment Manufacturers, suppliers, testing facilities or specialist service providers;
● Prepare technical quotations, proposals, and cost estimates for Customer approval; and
● Developing and reviewing technical job instructions and engineering work packages.
● Providing technical input into problems associated with equipment or system malfunction, including failure analysis and solution development.
● Conduct detailed naval architecture tasks, including:
◦ Requirements analysis;
◦ Performance improvement investigations;
◦ Material compatibility investigations;
◦ Review of equipment/system design and maintenance documentation;
◦ Failure analysis;
◦ Risk and hazard assessments;
◦ Support lifting appliance certification, design and testing;
◦ Structural and Stability calculations;
◦ Hull surveys, lightship surveys, and inclining tests; and
◦ Assure compliance with hull related Classification Society, Naval Ship Code and Polar Code requirements.
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications:
●An Engineering degree or equivalent in Naval Architecture, Marine or Mechanical Engineering;
● Minimum of 10 years maritime experience in Ship Repair, Ship Building or Ship Operational Experience;
● Eligible to be registered as a Professional Engineer in British Columbia, Nova Scotia, or Ontario, Canada; and
● Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
