Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive data asset inventory program to document critical information assets across departments.
- Collaborate with departments to identify, classify, and document data assets, including ownership, storage locations, and access controls.
- Implement automation and tracking tools for efficient data asset management.
- Conduct risk assessments of data assets to evaluate their alignment with information security policies, standards, and compliance frameworks.
- Identify vulnerabilities, threats, and risks associated with data storage, transmission, and processing.
- Provide recommendations for risk mitigation and assist in the implementation of security controls.
- Work closely with academic and administrative departments to improve awareness and participation in data security initiatives.
- Conduct training and workshops on data asset management and risk assessment best practices.
- Serve as a liaison between the Information Security Office and institutional departments to ensure alignment with security policies.
- Generate reports and dashboards to track the progress of data asset inventory and risk assessment activities.
- Stay updated on emerging security threats, regulatory requirements, and best practices to enhance the program’s effectiveness.
- Recommend and assist in implementing security tools and solutions for better asset management and risk monitoring.
Qualifications
Must Haves:
- 3+ years of experience in information security, risk assessment, IT asset management, or compliance roles.
- Knowledge of data governance, asset management, and risk assessment frameworks (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001, CIS Controls, GDPR, etc.).
- Familiarity with security tools for asset discovery, vulnerability management, and risk analysis.
- Proficiency in Excel, SQL, Power BI, or other data analysis tools for tracking and reporting.
General Skills:
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with faculty, staff, and IT teams.
- Ability to simplify complex security concepts for non-technical audiences.
- Proactive problem-solving and attention to detail in managing security risks.
Nice to Have:
Preferred Certifications (Not Required but a Plus):
- Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
- Certified Information Security Manager (CISM)
- Certified Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC)
- Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA)
