Our client in the Automotive Manufacturing industry is currently seeking a Human Resource Specialist with a focus on employee absence management and working with employees on a return to work program. This full time, permanent position is based on-site five days a week, supporting a fast paced and collaborative work environment. As the HR Specialist, you will focus on managing disability claims, short-term leaves, and return-to-work programs. The ideal candidate will work closely with employees, supervisors, and a third-party administrator to ensure efficient handling of cases and compliance with company policies and applicable laws.

Responsibilities
Manage the day-to-day administration of employee disability claims (short-term disability, long-term disability) and short-term leaves of absence.
Serve as the primary point of contact for employees and managers regarding leave policies, processes, and status updates.
Oversee and support the return-to-work program, working collaboratively with employees, managers, and medical providers to facilitate timely and safe returns.
Communicate regularly with third-party leave and disability vendors to monitor case progress, resolve issues, and ensure consistency.
Conduct monthly meetings with the third-party vendor to review claim status reports and discuss trends or concerns.
Maintain accurate and confidential employee leave records, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., FMLA, ADA).
Partner with the Safety and Occupational Health teams as needed on workers’ compensation and workplace accommodations.
Provide reports, metrics, and analysis related to leaves and return-to-work activity to HR leadership.
Support general HR activities as needed, including employee relations, recruitment functions, and special projects.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred; equivalent work experience considered.
2–4 years of HR experience, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
Experience managing disability claims, leave administration, and return-to-work programs.
Familiarity with working alongside third-party administrators.
Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail.
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with professionalism.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships at all levels of the organization.
Proficiency with HRIS systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
