We are seeking an experienced Field Safety Specialist for a long term contract opportunity with a well established heavy industry client of ours in the Vancouver area. This position reports to the Manager of Occupational and Process Safety and provides guidance to contractors regarding our Incident and Injury Free Culture of Care.

Responsibilities
-A visible leader in developing Construction Contractor fluency with our clients incident and Injury free work culture.
-Facilitate hazard and risk assessment for field construction and operations (What-if, CJSA, LFJSA, and JHA). Includes leading the confined space entry hazard assessments of confined space entry.
-Participate in Design and Construction/Constructability reviews with a focus on Safety.
-Confirm Contractor Safety Audit program and participate in Site Safety Inspections.
-Take lead role and/or participate during Near Loss and Loss (Incident) Investigations.
-Work closely with the Industrial Hygiene and Plant Protection teams on multiple fronts to ensure work is managed to minimize or eliminate potential exposure and compliance issues.
-Stewards the compliance to WorkSafe BC regulations, including prime contractor responsibilities, refinery process and safe work standards of practice.
-Champion the PRBC Safety and Loss Prevention System and Human Performance principles
-Proactive and intervention of “at risk” behaviors to ensure safety and compliance standards are met.
Qualifications
-Experience working in a Health & Safety role within a refinery or a combination of Health & Safety education/training & Red Seal trades persons.
-Experience working within a construction or project organization.
-Occupation Health & Safety Diploma or Certificate and/or Construction Safety Officer trained or expectation to obtain the accredited training.
-Demonstrated knowledge of safe work practices for higher risk work such as Work Permitting, Confined Space Entry, Lifting and Rigging and Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO)
-Knowledgeable regarding Industrial Health risks and mitigation strategies
-Knowledgeable of Worksafe BC’s requirements for primacy and their Partners Program, also known as the Certificate of Recognition (COR) program.
-Familiarity with Refinery operations and related health and safety risks .
-Comfortable with public speaking and leading safety meetings and training sessions in an industrial setting.
-Excellent Relationship Building and Conflict Resolution skills.
-Very familiar with building trades and methods of construction.
-Disciplined and accurate documentation and record-keeping skills.
-Strong computer skills, MS Office suite.
