Job Summary
We are looking for an Electrician located in Fort St. John, BC on a fixed term contract whose main responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Keep all operating electrical equipment in safe and proper working condition.
• Maintain the electrical ESA inspection book, and accompany the ESA Inspector while on site.
• Recommend the ordering of electrical supplies, and safely stocks and stores the supplies.
• Complete maintenance records and work orders.
• Observe and implement safety regulations and practices.
• Observe and implement applicable regulations made under the Provincial and Federal statues and Municipal by-laws.
• Test and repair any electrical defects in building infrastructure systems or non- patient related equipment.
• Test and verify new (non-patient related) equipment prior to use for proper CSA (or equivalent) certification.
• Update documentation (drawings, specifications, O&M manuals, etc.) related to electrical services.
• Perform weekly tests of the emergency back-up power systems, and report any deficiencies to immediate Site Manager.
• Install and repair the nurse call system within the patient rooms or ward desk.
• Repair or assist contractors with outside lighting and parking lot equipment.
• Install new services in renovation or building changes as determined by the Site Manager.
• Ensure electrical stocks are stored in a secure location with up-to-date inventory records.
• Maintain the cleanliness of all shops and mechanical rooms.
• Participate in all departmental safety training programs including but not limited to Lock/Out Tag Out and Arc Flash Training.
• Ensure personal protective equipment (PPE) is properly utilized, and maintained.
• Safely dispose all used florescent lamp tubes in the containment unit.
• Participate and support other duties as assigned to assist other maintenance trades.
• Respond and assist with all Hospital/Peace Villa Emergency Codes.
• Perform and assist with Security Duties as required. These duties may include but are not limited to; escorts (Staff and Patient), patrols, restricting access to non-public areas, providing off hour assess to non-public areas, monitoring surveillance equipment (such as CCTV) and maintaining security equipment, and other duties as outlined in the Performance Agreement and departmental Policies and Procedures.
• Ability to work stand-by-hours, shift work and overtime.
• Act in accordance with the commitment to safe and compassionate patient care and a safe and healthy work environment.
• Work in compliance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the regulations including but not limited to: use or wear of equipment or protective devices or clothing for safety purposes, report any known contravention of this Act or regulations or the existence of any hazards.
• Have knowledge and understanding of the Internal Responsibility System (IRS) in relation to the Occupational Health and Safety Act and attend all required Health and Safety.

Qualifications
What you’ll need:
• Successful completion of Grade 12.
• Successful completion of a recognized Electrician certificate.
• Minimum of 10 years’ experience in all aspects of institutional electrical equipment maintenance, preferably in a hospital environment.
• Working knowledge of building services including air conditioning, refrigeration and electrical and mechanical equipment controls and systems.
• Knowledge and understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (attend training as required).
• Knowledge of electrical code, Health and Safety Act and all applicable CSA Codes.
• Must successfully complete environmental, safety, and any other training required by corporate policy.
• Communication is key, therefore, proven ability to effectively interact (verbal & written) with clients, tenants, management and team members is a must
