Responsibilities
-Individuals within the Systems Architecture and Engineering job family are responsible for the full lifecycle of technology infrastructure systems, including identification of need, sourcing, design, engineering, development, testing, deployment and third level support.
-They are expected to identify where the adoption and standardization of both existing and new technologies and architecture throughout the company will provide improved service and reduced risk at lower cost. They should be able to influence management at all levels in their acceptance and adoption of new technologies. They are knowledgeable of the full range of technologies available and build productive and beneficial relationships with their vendors. Having confirmed the company’s and the relevant users’ global requirements, they evaluate and select the appropriate technologies, ensuring full compatibility with all other appropriate existing and anticipated new technologies.
-Often in partnership with the vendors, System Architects and Engineers are responsible for engineering and customizing solutions, so that they integrate with the overall technical architecture. They are responsible for planning for technology infrastructure deployment company-wide.
-They also serve as internal subject matter experts, consultants and troubleshooters, with responsibility for ensuring stake-holder satisfaction with infrastructure technology. Additionally, they are responsible for tracking technical and business trends, assessing their impact and developing strategies to leverage this information to build solutions and mitigate risks and plan the retirement and transition of technologies at the end of their lifecycle.
-System Architects and Engineers develop significant technical skills in one or more technologies such as; networks, hardware, operating systems, databases, and require well-developed project and people management skills.
-Oversees multiple projects under their management scope.
-Provides mentorship and guidance to Band I, Band II and Band III staff.
-Responsible for leading end-to-end analysis, design, architecture, product selection, building and implementation of large or highly-integrated products.
-Responsible for developing technical vision, procedures, and architecture within a technology or process domain.
-Influences internal partners to ensure they build solutions consistent with the organization's planned policies, programs and architectural recommendations.
-Contributes to departmental / firm strategies.
-Provides costs relative to solutions.
-Provides cost input for financial decision-making.
-Provides high-level cost estimates.
-Coordinates capital budget planning.
-Selects team members.
-Identifies gaps in skill sets.
-Leads support of HR processes.
-Manages a group of architects and assigns resources, manages employee workloads and internal/external consultancy.
-Leads delivery in accordance with management guidelines through coaching and mentorship.
-Leads portfolio of design initiatives.
-Develops and delivers presentations to all levels of the organization, including executive level, as required.
-Drives and reviews technical specifications.
-Reviews detailed documentation for implementation teams.
-Plans and participates in testing requirements for validation of system design.
-Participates in defining guidelines for managing risk.
-Approves lifecycle / roadmap of products.
-Contributes to the vendor roadmap to ensure alignment with Rogers' strategy.
-Contributes to development of industry standards.
-Contributes to creation and delivery of intellectual capital assets.
-Ensure support is available and acts as an escalation point for specified technologies.
-Has wide internal and external contact network.
-Industry recognition as an expert in at least one area of technology.
-Familiarity with, or exposure to, multiple related areas of technology.
-Acts as a consultant on complex issues.
-Has wide internal and some external professional network.
-Represents firm at external forums.
Qualifications
-Expert understanding of one or more: wireless Core networks, policy and charging, PCRF, 5G, diameter, PCEF.
-Undergraduate degree required or a combination of experience and education.
-5-7 years experience as a network architect or 3-5 years managing / leading senior network technical staff.
-Working knowledge of industry-standard architectural tools, processes and frameworks.
-Knowledge of ITIL best practices and process improvement.
