As a Civil Estimator, you will play a key role in the pre-construction phase, preparing and coordinating estimates for tenders, collaborating with vendors and clients, and ensuring that all cost estimations are accurate and aligned with project specifications. Responsibilities
Tender Preparation & Estimation: Prepare detailed estimates for tenders, including full quantity takeoffs based on the scope of work.
Scope Monitoring: Track all changes in the scope of work during the estimate period and adjust estimates accordingly.
Vendor & Subcontractor Coordination: Select vendors and subcontractors, evaluate costs, and establish working relationships to ensure cost-effective solutions.
Material Selection: Collaborate with vendors and clients to discuss and approve alternative materials that may reduce costs or improve efficiency.
Construction Methods Analysis: Research and propose the most effective construction methods and means to ensure quality, cost-efficiency, and timely delivery.
Pre-Bid Meetings: Attend pre-bid meetings to determine project scope and clarify the required contents of the estimate.
Design Review & Recommendations: Review design options, providing cost-effective solutions that consider engineering quality, material availability, and project budget.
Collaboration with Project Managers: Work closely with Project Managers to estimate extra work items, change orders, and project credits after contract award.
Project Post-Mortem Analysis: Participate in post-project reviews with the Project Manager, Site Superintendent, and Foreman to discuss successes, challenges, and potential areas for improvement.
Budget & Crew Summaries: Compile comprehensive project budgets and crew summaries to ensure projects are aligned with financial goals.
Qualifications
Proven experience as an Estimator in the civil construction industry, with a strong understanding of construction cost estimation processes.
Experience in tender preparation, quantity takeoffs, and analyzing bids.
Ability to communicate effectively with vendors, clients, and project teams.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to evaluate and propose construction alternatives.
Familiarity with construction methods, materials, and cost analysis tools.
Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
Willingness to learn and take on project management responsibilities in the future.
A degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field is preferred but not required.
