Assistant Controller – Manufacturing Cornwall, ON On-Site

Reporting directly to the Controller, the Assistant Controller will play a critical role in managing financial reporting, cost and inventory accounting, budgeting, and internal controls. The successful candidate will help ensure the accuracy of financial data, support decision-making, and contribute to continuous improvement within the finance function.

Responsibilities
- Lead and support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes
- Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statements in accordance with ASPE
- Develop, implement, and monitor internal controls and accounting policies
- Oversee inventory and cost accounting activities, including standard costing
- Analyze manufacturing cost variances (materials, labor, overhead) and deliver insights to leadership and operations
- Review and approve vendor payments in alignment with company procedures
- Assist with external audits, including audit prep and coordination with auditors
- Ensure compliance with tax filings (GST/HST, VAT, and other regulatory reporting)
- Identify and execute opportunities for process improvements and automation
- Mentor junior accounting team members, providing coaching and performance feedback
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- CPA designation or actively pursuing CPA is a strong asset
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in a manufacturing environment
- Solid understanding of ASPE, cost accounting, and inventory management
- Proficiency with ERP systems such as AS400 or Microsoft 365 Business Central
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, data analysis)
- Strong communication, analytical, and organizational skills
